High quality instruction, learning, and engagement in STEM should be a key priority for colleges and universities across the United States. Achieving equitable and effective teaching for all students will require concerted and consistent action by multiple stakeholders, within and beyond the higher education system. This challenge does not present a one-time goal that can be checked off, it is a long-term journey of continuous improvement.
A new report from the National Academies offers guidance on proven principles of teaching and urges policy change to better support teaching and learning. Transforming Undergraduate STEM Education: Supporting Equitable and Effective Teaching calls on leaders of institutions and academic units, instructors, and other stakeholders to leverage their important roles to improve the landscape of undergraduate STEM education so that all students can thrive.
